April 2018

April is turning out to be superb and that's just not weather wise! There has been an amazing array of events - both to take part in and to spectate, as the excitement of the Commonwealth Games in Australia brings sports into focus. Watching athletes at the peak of their disciplines is not only inspiring but shows the results of dedication and mindset.

As well as the Games, both the local and National Athletics leagues for adult and junior leagues are in full swing. The glorious sunshine means outdoor training is on everyone's minds - as well as setting new fitness goals to shape up for Summer.

In preparation for the upcoming running and O.C.R. events, FFA have agreed to continue to use the facilities on Saturdays from 8-9am at Merchant Taylors School on June 16th and 23rd.

A New Location
The Farm London (Elstree) is another location FFA started to use for FFA's O.C.R. small group and personal training purposes. The Farm is an outdoor boot camp setting and it has decent equipment and a couple of challenging obstacles which makes it a nice alternative and addition to the training FFA does at Merchant Taylors School. Sessions in small group settings are currently possible on Tuesdays 1-2pm, Fri 12-1pm and/or Sun 12-1pm. Attendance is to be confirmed beforehand.

Keep an eye on our How to Obstacle-run (H2O) and Improve Running Performance Facebook page for more details.

Running into summer . . .

The big date in many runner's diaries is the London Marathon which is held on the 22nd April. FFA wishes all participants good luck in particular to Shyam Lakhani, Lindsey Allen and Stephen Woodhouse who will try to complete it in under 5 hours, 4 hours 45 min and 3 hours 40 min respectively.

However, if you are not quite ready for the challenge of a marathon just yet, it is still not too late to sign up for The All Nations 5K or 10K which is to be held at Dorney Lake on the 12th May.

Another great running event apart from the Watford 10k in June is the Vitality London 10k which is held on bank holiday Monday 28th May.
